The Reds are still trying to improve their rotation. According to MLBBuzz from YardBarker the Reds are continuing to try and make a deal with right handed pitcher Roy Oswalt.
Rumor has it that Oswalt would prefer to pitch for the Cardinals or Rangers, but that has not stopped the Reds from attempting to lure him to the Nati. This would be difficult to fit into the current payroll and if a deal is reached, could mean the end of Homer Bailey in Cincy.
It is believed that Oswalt is seeking between 8 and 10 million for a one year deal and the Reds could dump almost 2.5 million by moving Bailey.
The Reds current line up consists of Johnny Cueto, Mat Latos, Bronson Arroyo, Mike Leake, Homer Bailey and Aroldis Chapman in the sixth spot.
One could argue that Oswalt is facing the decline in his career while there is a bigger upside to keeping Bailey and I would be in favor of the Reds keeping Homer on the roster. It helps with the future even though the Reds seem to be in a win now mode.
