Feeling The Love

Since it's Valentines Day and everyone is feeling the “love” I thought I'd ask Reds fans out there what do you “love” most about our team?

The thing that I love most about the Reds is listening to them on the radio. I grew up listening to Marty and Joe calling games each night. When I was little we had this old handheld radio that I'd hide under my pillow at night so that when it was bedtime I could keep listening to Reds games even though I should have been sleeping. There was, and still is nothing better than listening to Marty shout out “And this one belongs to the Reds”. I would listen to Joe Nuxhall's Star of the Game and his signature sign off “this is the old left hander rounding third and heading for home, goodnight everyone”. There was just something about listening to the Reds on radio that I just couldn't get enough of.

Not to mention the countless summer nights driving home from whichever practice or game I had, whether it be spring soccer or baseball, you could always count on my dad having his radio tuned into The Big One to listen to the Reds. There are many memories of him and I listening to the Reds in the car. I would imagine that a lot of you have those special memories of listening to the Reds on the radio with others.

The entire reason that I got into broadcasting stemmed from a conversation I had in the car, with my dad, while we were listening to The Big One. Granted, it wasn't during a Reds game but we were on our way home from football practice listening to the Reds Hot Stove league and we were having a conversation about what I was going to major in at school. I wanted to be a gym teacher at the time but then it dawned on me (after some nudging from my father) that I love radio. It was at that moment that I decided that my major in school was going to be broadcasting.

I never fulfilled my goal of becoming a big name sports broadcaster however I was able to discover a new “love” so to speak, and that's podcasting.

So Reds fans I want to know what you love MOST about this Reds team. What are your fondest memories of the Reds? Which players, past or present, would you “love” to meet? You can comment below, send me your emails at podcast@redlegfans.com or your tweets @redlegweekly.

Happy Valentines Day everyone!

I just love the Tradition. Opening day in Cincinnati. What could be better? taking a Quote from the Harbough Fam and making it my own, “Whos got it better then us”? every spring, when the feeling of dissapointment from the Bengals wears off, I don my Reds hat and I think to myself, Hell yea only x-amount of days till Reds season!

  2. I have an almost identical story to yours, Seubs. Grew up listening to Marty and Joe damned near everyday. At home , in the car, Grandpa’s backyard, you name it, Marty and Joe were there.

My favorite thing about the Reds has to be the radio. Sure, I love going to the ballpark as much as the next guy, but a family of five can get expensive. Radio is free. Several ice cold beers on the patio with Marty and The Cowboy, and I’m good to go. It gets even better when my boys wanna toss ball while listening…..ahhh summertime.

Radio, beer, patio, three sons who love baseball… What more could I possibly need!

I love the Reds on the radio, and also love going to the games. Compared to football it is pretty cheap.

I also have had beers with CK on the patio with the boys. That is pretty cool also.
