Report: Reds and Marshall Agree on Extension

The Reds and LHP Sean Marshall have agreed on a three year extension.

Cincinnati Reds GM Walt Jocketty has announced today that the club has come to terms with new Reds pitcher Sean Marshall. Terms of the contract haven’t been released just yet but reports from Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports say that the extension is worth $16.5 million over 3 years (2015).

Marshall is in his first year as a member of the Reds. He was acquired during the offseason in a trade with the Chicago Cubs.

UPDATE: Per Ken Rosenthall – Interesting aspect to Marshall extension: $2M in performance bonuses each year. Half for games finished, half for games started. In other words, Reds acknowledge they can use him as a starter or a reliever. He will have incentives for both.
