Almost all of the Reds hit yesterday against the Cubs. Drew Stubbs who has been having a tough beginning to the season had 3 hits and 2 stolen bases. Bruce and Mesoraco both added two hits themselves and the Reds cruised to a 5 run victory. The Reds have won two games in a row with a chance to end this road trip at 5 and 5 with a sweep of the Cubs. This is the kind of output I was excited for at the beginning of the season.
However, there are a bunch of Reds fans that are morons. A few days ago when Mat Latos took the mound and struggled again for the Reds, many Reds fans on twitter were not happy. Some crossed the line. These idiots attacked the wife of the struggling pitcher Dallas Latos. Some tweets were offensive, some rude and some borderline threatening.
What kind of an asshole would attack a guys wife on Twitter because he is struggling on the mound? What kind of impression does that give of the normal fans of the Reds?
We are not Browns fans and not Steelers fans. This is the kind of behavior that we expect of some fans of these teams. However, the internet makes everyone a tough guy. It is easy to run your mouth when there is no chance you are going to get knocked on your ass for it.
So it is awesome that the Reds are on a winning streak (hey, two games is a streak right?) but not awesome that it seems we fans don’t know how to handle ourselves when we have a connection to an athlete. It is no wonder these athletes don’t make themselves more available to the public, it is obvious the public does not know how to handle themselves.
Now, off my soap box…. Lets go Reds, beat those Cubs today.

Well said Mick, well said.
