Homer lived up to his namesake

20120410-082118.jpg

Well, that was not the way I wanted the series to start vs. the Cardinals. Homer Bailey had no trouble getting the first two outs in the first and then tossed some slow pitch softball to the next few batters to the tune of 3 home runs and 4 runs total. He did settle down after that but with only three hits in the game, the Reds were not going to come charging back. Bill Bray made his first … [Read more...]

Big series begins tonight at GABP

This is when the Reds whipped the Cards in Cincinnati

6 of the next 10 games the Reds play are against the St Louis Cardinals. I don't know about you, but I feel the same way about the Cards as I do about the Pittsburgh Steelers. I hate them both. So the Reds open tonight at 7 in the quest to take the Central division. I understand that the season does not hinge on these next 6 games, but to set the tone at home in the first series would be … [Read more...]

BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE

Jay Bruce

How about starting the season with three hits all for home runs?  How about the last one being clutch in the ninth inning where your offense has stalled and you are down one. How about Jay Bruce is starting this season killing the ball. On Bruce's bat, the Reds won their first series of the season. Like I said before, as long as the Reds can take two games in every series this season is going … [Read more...]

The Mat Latos era starts with a thud

20120408-084008.jpg

As excited I was to see this new kid the reds have in their rotation the result was not what I had hoped for. After a pretty solid first inning, Latos fell apart and in the 5th had an early exit with 4 earned runs. The bullpen came in and failed to douse the flames, actually at times they looked like they tossed gas on the fire. This is what the first Reds loss of the season felt like to me. I … [Read more...]

First #ATOBTTR of the Year

Johnny Cueto pitched 7 innings of 3 hit baseball as the Reds won 4-0 on Opening Day in Cincinnati.

For those of you reading this post you may be wondering what the heck #ATOBTTR means. It's my lame attempt to get "And This One Belongs to the Reds" trending on Twitter. Whether it trends or not isn't entirely the point but it's nice to hear those great words from Marty again in his 39th year with the Reds. … [Read more...]

Reds getting things done right up to the opener

jjhoover

The Cincinnati Reds and Walt Jocketty have been busy.  First, they decided to trade Juan Francisco for Atlanta pitching prospect JJ Hoover. I don't think anyone was happy with Francisco after showing up to camp over weight and failing to properly rehab his injury.  Now the Reds have added another young strong arm to the minors that could help in the future. Here is Hoover's numbers at … [Read more...]

Reds lose Madson for season

ryan-madson

The Cincinnati Reds found out today they lose their newly signed closer for the season. Ryan Madson will require Tommy John surgery which will end his season. The Reds also do not have insurance on Madson's 1 year deal for 8.5 million. So the Reds essentially paid Madson to not play this season. Also on Twitter is specualtion that Chapman or Sean Marshall could close now. This … [Read more...]

Joey Votto likes the Reds but would want a long deal

Joey Votto

Per Jon Heyman at CBSSports Joey Votto wants his next deal to be a long one. A 5 year deal does not interest Votto who "It would be tough for a [top] position player to sign for five years. No matter how fond a person is of the city, players have to maximize the number of years,"Votto said.would look more in the 9 or 10 year range. (comparable to the deals that Prince Fielder and Pujols … [Read more...]

Brandon Phillips Won’t be a Red in 2013

BP

I want to start out by saying I love Brandon Phillips, who doesn’t, but the Reds will not sign BP to a long term deal for the money Brandon wants, and this is one of the rare cases that both sides are right. Brandon is looking to get around 15 million a year and I say to a team with a higher payroll he would be a great addition to their club. The Reds just can’t commit that much … [Read more...]

Spring training ball is not about win loss

MLB: SEP 09 Reds at Rockies

Spring training ball is not about win loss, it is about how the players perform. How players have come back from injury and how the young guys are looking. Here are some notes on some of the guys with question marks: Aroldis Chapman has gone gone 4 innings with 5 Ks, 1 BB and 2 hits. Two of those innings were perfect against the Giants.  That is strong for Chapman. It will be interesting to … [Read more...]
